Jean-Paul Maunick formed Incognito in London in 1981, and a decade later Maunick had found a way to celebrate the American soul and funk he loved in his own style. The band stoked the fires of the acid-jazz craze with their 1991 house-kissed soul burner “Always There”, and they haven't looked back. In the decades since, Maunick has directed a revolving cast of singers and musicians—including Jocelyn Brown and Maysa Leak—to produce an ever-morphing blend of sophisticated urban sounds, transforming influences like Roy Ayers and Earth, Wind & Fire into something unabashedly modern. Incognito have consistently balanced great songwriting, soulful singing and dance-floor grooves, transcending any genre or era.
