Deicide Essentials

Deicide Essentials

The Satanic fervour fuelling Deicide is summed up by the upside-down crosses that singer/bassist Glen Benton brands into his forehead. Sure, death metal has coughed up grislier monstrosities, but few others can match the deft balance of crushing force and blazing technique heard on “Dead By Dawn”, from their 1990 self-titled debut, or “Satan Spawn, The Caco Daemon”, off their mind-warpingly complex Legion. Their riffs, demonic grunts and blast beats are set for maximum destruction, but Deicide can also achieve a kind of intricate beauty on cuts like “In the Minds of Evil”, with its gloriously dark and chiselled sounds.
