Bauhaus Essentials

Now widely considered to be the first goth-rock group, British post-punks Bauhaus formed in '78. After only six weeks, they recorded a set of demos, which to their surprise got them immediate indie chart attention as well as a coveted spot on John Peel's highly influential BBC show. Two years and several more successful singles later, they released their debut album, In the Flat Field, which sold well despite a tepid critical response. After recording three more successful LPs, Bauhaus called it quits in '83, leaving a legacy that's inspired bands from The Cure to Interpol.
