Angelo Badalamenti Essentials

Composer Angelo Badalamenti's scores gave a sense of mystery and atmosphere to many of director David Lynch's best-known films. Born in New York, he began his career in the ’60s, working with electronic music pioneers Perrey & Kingsley before branching into film scores in the ’70s. His relationship with Lynch began on 1986’s Blue Velvet, for which he was brought on as Isabella Rossellini's vocal coach, only to end up scoring the film and serving as its musical director. Badalamenti subsequently composed for most of Lynch's film and TV efforts, including Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks. Throughout his career scoring cinema, he also collaborated on all manner of other projects, working with artists as far-flung as Anthrax, David Bowie, Marianne Faithfull, and James vocalist Tim Booth in Booth and The Bad Angel. Badalamenti died in December 2022 at the age of 85.
