The Undisputed Truth

About The Undisputed Truth

The brainchild of Motown producer and songwriter Norman Whitfield, the Undisputed Truth are one of the finest examples of 1970s psychedelic soul. The acid-tinged experiments Whitfield began with the Temptations in the late '60s came to full fruition with the Truth's stoned-soul classic "Smiling Faces Sometimes." Though the group had three excellent vocalists and ace session musicians, it was Whitfield's baby entirely, and when he split with Motown in the mid '70s, the Undisputed Truth followed him to his newly formed Whitfield Records. They continued to release solid Funkadelic-inspired albums through the decade, and disbanded at the dawn of the '80s.
