Neil Thomson

About Neil Thomson

Britain's Neil Thomson is the principal conductor and music director of the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra in Brazil. He has conducted widely in his home country, and he has the unusual specialty of leading orchestras in live performances of film scores, accompanying the films for which they were written. He has toured with cellist Antônio Meneses, and the large group of international-caliber soloists with whom he has also toured includes flutist James Galway and percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Thomson premiered a reconstructed score for Singin' in the Rain at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2013 and has also conducted scores for The Wizard of Oz, Titanic, and Amadeus. He has made several recordings, including an album of contemporary American violin concertos with Ittai Shapira and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Thomson embarked on a cycle of the 14 symphonies of Claudio Santoro in 2022.
