About Los Folkloristas

From their beginnings in the mid-'60s in Ciudad de México, Los Folkloristas developed as a cultural initiative to promote Latin American folk music. Initially formed by amateur musicians, in 1972 José Ávila decided to turn Los Folkloristas into a professional act. Since then, they have remained true to their mission of studying and propagating the musical traditions of Latin America, appearing in festivals all over the world, recording dozens of albums, and receiving countless awards and accolades. Although the group's lineup has constantly changed over the years, Los Folkloristas have always remained a septet comprising five men and two women. ~ Mariano Prunes
