About Josef Triebensee

Having studied the oboe with his father, this Bohemian musician was second oboe in the Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna when Mozart conducted his "Die Zauberflote" in 1791. As a talented musician he would often perform oboe solos at the Karntnertortheater. Triebensee became the conductor of the Prague Opera when Weber stepped down and served in that capacity until his own retirement. Compositions by Triebensee were many and notable including approximately three hundred pieces for the emperor's Harmonie. Twelve comic operas can also be attributed to Triebensee as well as a number of vocal, chamber and orchestral pieces. ~ Keith Johnson
