Among those at the forefront of Colombia’s reggaetón wave, Feid, or El Ferxxo, stands out as the smooth-voiced, sensitive, chameleonic one. A Paisa born Salomón Villada Hoyos in Medellín in 1992, he takes pride in his roots and decorates his romantic lyrics with local slang. He’s also a musical adventurer who spikes his otherwise classic perreo with dark, chilly synths and the moody energy of R&B. His 2022 breakout, FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS FERXXO TE PIRATEAMOS EL ÁLBUM, also saw him experimenting with electronic genres and cutting tech-house bangers. “I’m not a super expert guy on techno music or EDM,” Feid told Apple Music in 2023. “I just really enjoy doing these kind of rhythms or the drum lines, the basslines that techno music has.” By the end of that year, he had teamed up with Bad Bunny on “PERRO NEGRO”, which scored them both a Latin Grammy for Best Reggaeton Performance. Since then, the reggaetonero has branched out even further while choosing his collaborators wisely, reuniting with producer Sky Rompiendo on 2024’s dramatically tempo- and genre-swinging LOS 9 DE FERXXO Y SKY ROMPIENDO and Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba on 2026’s kinetic club jam “Medellín Takai”. Such versatility may stem from Feid writing songs for other artists, such as J Balvin and Reykon, early in his career. But if he seems hard to pin down, it’s because he chooses to follow his muse in unpredictable directions.
