About Eli Teplin

With Bruce Hornsby, Brian Wilson, and Billy Joel among his inspirations, singer and songwriter Eli Teplin's earnest pop songs reveal his classical roots. Also known for writing for artists spanning pop, country, and dance music, he garnered millions of streams for his debut solo track, 2017's "Could It Be Over." A classically trained pianist who also plays guitar, Teplin studied music at the New England Conservatory in Boston, near his hometown of Needham, Massachusetts, and at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He cut his teeth in the performance spaces of Music City before relocating to Los Angeles. It was in L.A. that he was discovered and signed by Quincy Jones. A deal with songwriter Tobias Jesso, Jr.'s publishing company soon followed. Teplin's first official release, the self-produced "Could It Be Over," arrived in 2017 and was greeted by millions of streams. In 2018, he followed up with his own "Writing on the Wall" while also co-writing songs for Baauer and Trent Dabbs. Continuing to write for others, his songwriting could be heard on tracks by Rhys Lewis ("End Like This") and Clark Beckham ("I Hurt Too Much") in 2019, a year that also brought Teplin's two-track single "Laney (With Waterbeds for Eyes)/Song for Laney" and "Can't Stop Thinkin' About You," a collaboration with guitarist Mateus Asato. That year, he also toured in support of Mat Kearney while playing keyboards in his backing band. ~ Marcy Donelson
