Singer-songwriter Darsh Dhaliwal invests his stomping pop tracks with elastic, confident vocals that have quickly grabbed attention across Punjab and its diaspora. • Dhaliwal made his debut with single “Ok Veere” in September 2020, released by Punjab-based label GK Music. • The singer’s breakthrough came a few months later with a release for Toronto’s Freq Records, “Area De Jatt”. The song features Punjabi singer Gurlez Akhtar, with music by Gur Sidhu. • Honing his chops beyond singing, Dhaliwal followed up his success with 2021’s “No Good” for which he also wrote the lyrics. The hip-hop-flavoured track is a joint release with music producer J-Statik. • Dhaliwal celebrates the roots of Punjabi folk while exploring motifs from pop to reggae with help from a rotating cast of collaborators, such as popular producer duo Desi Crew.
