Cilla Black

About Cilla Black

The belle of the British Invasion, Liverpool singer/songwriter Cilla Black was discovered by Beatles manager Brian Epstein at the height of the Merseybeat boom. With pop gems overseen by Beatles producer George Martin, Black started scoring major British hits in the mid-'60s. Her musical success crossed over to the small screen, and she became a U.K. TV star by the end of the decade. Over the course of the '70s, she became more widely known for her television work than her music, but at her peak, Black was the biggest-selling female artist in England. ~ Jim Allen
