About Bremer/McCoy
Danish duo Bremer/McCoy make atmospheric jazz- and dub-influenced instrumental music. Weaving together acoustic and electronic sounds, they evoke the languid '70s ECM work of artists like Keith Jarrett and Ralph Towner, as well as new age artists like Mike Oldfield and Klaus Schulze. Together since 2013, they have issued albums on the Raske Plader label, including 2015's Ordet and 2016's Forsvinder. Bremer/McCoy gained wider acclaim after signing to Luaka Bop and releasing 2019's Utopia, 2021's Natten, and 2024's Kosmos. Based in Copenhagen, Bremer/McCoy features bassist Jonathan Bremer and keyboardist/tape delay artist Morten McCoy. Prior to forming a duo, Bremer was an in-demand player on the Copenhagen jazz scene, and spent time as the house bassist at the club Montmartre, as well as gigging with artists Niels Lan Doky, Gino Vannelli, David Sanborn, and others. Conversely, McCoy developed his skills playing reggae music and working as a DJ and concert promoter. Initially, the childhood friends bonded over their shared interest in reggae and Jamaican musical traditions, but quickly expanded into a broader soundscape, embracing spacy modal jazz, dub, and neo-classical elements, a sound they debuted on 2013's Enhed. They also built a custom sound system they used to perform live. Two more albums followed on Raske Plader with 2015's Ordet and 2016's Forsvinder. In 2019, they made their Luaka Bop debut with Utopia, an album that found them further pushing their kaleidoscopic blend of classical and ambient jazz. Their second Luaka Bop album, Natten, which is Danish for "The Night," was released in October 2021. The duo's third album for the label, the sonically delicate and dream-like Kosmos, arrived in September 2024. ~ Matt Collar
