About Bengal Sound

Taking notes from dubstep's storied history and combining them with inventive sampling techniques, Bristol-based producer Bengal Sound was quick to become one of the most exciting prospects in the late-2010s underground scene. Known for the sample-driven "Wushu Hand" as well as his hyped series of sets for Keep Hush, the producer dropped debut full-length Culture Clash in May 2018. Getting his start on Pearly Whites' compilation Pearly Whites, Vol. 2, Bengal Sound (born Farhad Ahmed) built an early cult following with his debut singles "K.I.S.S." and "Slow Jammin'." Working with White Peach for his debut release, the Wushu Hand EP, Ahmed was quick to make a splash: blending aspects of early dubstep pioneers with modern production styles and sample-led melodies, the upcoming producer established himself at the cutting edge of a firmly underground dubstep scene. His debut full-length, Culture Clash, saw release in May 2018; available solely via cassette, the project's ten tracks took inspiration from the Bollywood films of Ahmed's youth, as well as tapping the Bristol trailblazer's heavy grime, R&B, and hip-hop influences. Constantly teasing new ideas through frequent sets at U.K. nightlife institute Keep Hush, 2019 saw a release of three further singles: The Corners EP arrived in April on Wych, "Never Mind/Short Stay" found a home on Bandulu in September, and "Young Skeleton/Coroners" landed on Innamind that October. ~ David Crone
