Belfast Cathedral Choir

About Belfast Cathedral Choir

Existing since 1904, when the cathedral was consecrated, the Belfast Cathedral Choir became a professional group in 2019. Matthew Owens became the choir's director and continues to hold the position. A new Belfast Cathedral Children's Choir was formed at the same time. Although it performs compositions from the medieval period forward, the Belfast Cathedral Choir has been notable for its focus on new music. The group has given world premieres of works by Judith Bingham, John Joubert, and Philip Stopford. A Belfast Christmas, the Belfast Cathedral Choir's debut recording was released in 2021 and featured many new compositions.
