About Álvaro López

Alvaro Lopez, one of Latin music's most respected drummers, seamlessly blends the styles of Latin-flavored jazz, R&B, gospel, and funk to create a sound that surpasses even language boundaries. Joined by the Res-Qband, composed of guitarist Gabe Terrado, keyboardist Mario Patron, and vocalists Abel Orta, Paul Garcia, and Roger Hudson, Lopez has recorded albums in both the Spanish- and English-language markets. In addition, he has served as a studio musician and producer on numerous projects. Lopez began his career at an early age, debuting as a professional drummer at the Degollado Theater in Guadalajara, Mexico. At the age of 14, he accompanied Mexico's Emmanuel and went on to record and tour with artists including José José, Daniela Romo, Yuri, and Pedro Vargas. In 1987, he toured with one of Latin America's top pop stars, Luis Miguel. During the year of 1993, Modern Drummer named him one of the top ten drummers in the world. One Voice Records released Lopez's first solo project, Por Amor, in 1998, followed by a second Spanish-language album, Suenos, in 2000. Lopez and Res-Qband issued their first English-language release, The Alvaro Lopez Project, in the spring of 2001. ~ Ashleigh Kittle
