A$AP Twelvyy’s “Strapped” opens with a bad take. The first verse is unceremoniously interrupted by A$AP Rocky, who chimes in enthusiastically, encouraging his unsung second-in-command to relish the opportunity. Over a loop of Sampha’s “Beneath the Tree”, punched up with boom-bap drums, Twelvyy delivers park-bench rhymes that could stand next to the best work of his style’s forefathers, the likes of Boot Camp Clik and Mobb Deep. Outside of Ferg, none of the rest of Rocky’s very talented entourage has had a breakout hit, but “Strapped” is as solid a bid as any for Twelvyy.
