The second collection of The Beatles’ BBC sessions draws from the prolific series of live-in-the-studio performances captured between 1962 and 1964. Filled with lively banter and exuberant performances, this brilliant volume includes a pair of previously unreleased rarities: a direct-to-air performance of Chuck Berry’s “I’m Talking About You” and a rollicking cover of “Beautiful Dreamer”. Even though the recordings have significant historical value for fans—including an early version of the band’s cover of Buddy Holly’s “Words of Love”—the broad appeal of these sessions lies in the uninhibited, freewheeling spirit of the musicians themselves. Covers of Chuck Berry (“Memphis, Tennessee”) and Little Richard (“Lucille”), plus a substantial collection of material from the extensive Pop Go The Beatles programmes, are included as well.
