“I’ve always loved ambient and downtempo music,” Poolside—aka producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise—tells Apple Music, “and have worked those influences into Poolside’s own music.” Among Poolside’s self-described “daytime disco” sound, you’ll hear the influence of ambient music on songs including “Golden Hour” (from 2012 debut album Pacific Standard Time) or on 2020 album Low Season, with opener “Abandoned Tunnel”. This wellness mix features the latter, as well as Poolside’s reworking of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, plus moments by artists including Jon Hopkins, Aphex Twin and Beverly Glenn-Copeland. The mix is also a celebration of a more recent connection Paradise forged with those ambient sounds he’s always been drawn to. “I got way into it during the early days of the pandemic when making these eight-hour long playlists of ambient, mellow jazz, instrumental light rock, for people to work from home to,” he remembers. “Making this wellness mix took me right back to that headspace.”
