24 Songs, 1 Hour 58 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Though recorded at the same time as his empowered, politically charged opus Exodus, the songs on 1978’s Kaya showcase Bob Marley's more optimistic side. “Easy Skanking” opens the album with a mantra of “Take it easy,” and that attitude is what gives Kaya its silver lining (even on heartbroken songs like “She’s Gone”). Marley even worships the sun on the bassy, atmospheric “Sun Is Shining,” while “Is This Love” remains one of his most ebullient, gentle creations.
