Bach Transcriptions - EP

Mao Fujita is a very special talent. The Japanese pianist’s Bach Transcriptions EP is presented in two contrasting parts, beginning with three gentle tracks, all arrangements by Alexander Siloti. Fujita articulates Bach’s themes with breathtaking technical and dynamic control, their accompaniments rippling effortlessly beneath. For the second part, Fujita plays three movements from the Partita No. 3 for solo violin, arranged with rather more poetic licence by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Each is a window into Fujita’s lyrical side—most delightful is the impish “Gavotte” although the final “Gigue” combines a sense of drama with a similar unalloyed playfulness.
