The Dead Kennedys Essentials

The Dead Kennedys Essentials

Sporting likely the most controversial band name of the hardcore era, San Francisco's Dead Kennedys matched viciously sardonic lyrics with a musically wide-ranging take on punk that lifted them far beyond hardcore stereotypes. Frontman Jello Biafra delivered his pointedly political and often hilarious lyrics in a uniquely abrasive vocal style, while guitarist East Bay Ray introduced rockabilly, surf rock and metal riffs into punk. Attacking everything from political dogma to religious hypocrisy to yuppie consumerism, Biafra also aimed his barbs at punk orthodoxy.
