Karen O Essentials

Karen O Essentials

Karen O cut a striking figure as lead singer of 2000s art-punk icons Yeah Yeah Yeahs, pouring her heart out on the tender 2003 single “Maps” and embracing New Wave on 2009’s synth-speckled It’s Blitz!. As a solo artist, Karen O exhibits similar range. Although an industrial-tinted take on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross boasts a familiar wild edge, she has branched out far beyond rock music elsewhere. Best of all are an atmospheric collaboration with Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig for the 2013 movie Her and the abstract electronic music of “Hieroglyphs,” recorded with Trztn.
