J.J. Cale: Next Steps

J.J. Cale: Next Steps

With a career that spanned five decades, country-bluesman J.J. Cale covered vast terrain without ever losing his casual cool. From 1976, “Travelin' Light” is brisk, shuffling funk that's practically electronic in its precision; by contrast, 1990's “New Orleans” is a piano-powered strut decked out in strings and Dixieland brass. And in 2006, he hooked up with his biggest fan, Eric Clapton, for a set of smooth Texas soul numbers like “Danger”.
