Foy Vance might be a native of Northern Ireland, but his music channels the sound of the American South. The son of a travelling minister, he spent five years in Oklahoma as a youth. The experience left an indelible mark on him and influenced every aspect of his songwriting—a style at once lyrical, soulful and expressive. After a decade of work, Vance has refined his sound, a combination of folk, blues and soul (with a rich Anglo-American vocal twang), echoing the atmospheric alchemy of The Walkmen and the tender intelligence of Bruce Springsteen.
