David Garrett Essentials

Juilliard-trained under Itzhak Perlman, this German violinist was one of the youngest artists to sign to Deutsche Grammophon where he recorded Mozart (with Abbado) and Conus and Tchaikovsky (with Pletnev). With the 2007 album Free, Garrett launched his crossover career, becoming first a huge star in Germany and then internationally. He balances classical repertoire (occasionally performing a full sonata) with pop, and the recipe clearly works. Enjoy this playlist of selected works from the stadium-filling classical star.
