Dapayk & Padberg are one of house music’s great power couples. Dapayk, a.k.a. Niklas Worgt, has been a fixture on the German minimal scene since the early 2000s when he co-founded the Mo’s Ferry label; Eva Padberg, a German model and graphic designer, began singing with him shortly thereafter. (They married in 2006.) As a duo, they fuse the sleek, euphoric sounds of Berlin club culture with a more melodic and emotive sensibility indebted to New Wave and electronic pop. Early releases like 2005’s Close Up paired clipped percussion samples and exacting sound design with brain-twisting vocal processing, but over the years, they’ve eased into a moodier, more atmospheric sound infused with melancholy glamour. A steady slate of remixes from beloved scene DJs—Booka Shade, Nôze, Marek Hemmann—ensures that even their most introspective material still has a home on the dance floor.
