Arve Henriksen Essentials

Arve Henriksen Essentials

Most great jazzers have a unique sound, but Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen is literally one of a kind; his mellow tone deliberately channels the breathy regality of the Japanese shakuhachi flute. Coming up in the Trondheim scene in the late ‘80s, Henriksen dropped his first solo album, Sakuteiki, in 2001. His work since then blends ambient music and modal minimalism with cool improvisations worthy of comparison to ‘60s Miles Davis. In his collaborations with vocal ensemble Trio Mediæval and his experimental group Supersilent, Henriksen truly ventures outside the boxes of his era.
