Though German lyric soprano Anna Prohaska’s voice is steeped in the wisdom and depth of a midcentury classic performer, she’s only been in the opera scene since 2002. You wouldn’t know it to hear her rich renditions of Schubert songs and Bach arias, both of which find profound gravity in Prohaska’s deep connection with the music. Her Handel has the perfect mix of soaring buoyancy and dizzying technical proficiency; her Purcell emphasises the drama of early Baroque music.
