Accept Essentials

Metal in the MTV era was supposed to scare parents, and the German band Accept were especially good at it. Not only were they loud and wild, but the lyrics were full of rude sexual references. Udo Dirkschneider's powerful Bon Scott-esque vocals and guitarist Wolf Hoffmann's driving riffs would be the band's trademarks, along with the reckless playing: the 1983 track "Fast as a Shark" is considered by some to be the birth of speed metal. The next year brought Balls to the Wall, whose title track was loved by adolescents of all ages. Dirkschneider's split ended the classic lineup in '87.
