About Sinfonia of London

The Sinfonia of London was founded in 2018 by conductor John Wilson. It is the third orchestra to bear that name, and it is not to be confused with the similarly named City of London Sinfonia or the London Sinfonietta. The Sinfonia of London is a session orchestra that exists to make recordings and generally does not give public concerts. Its membership is hand-picked by Wilson and features many principals and section leaders from orchestras around the United Kingdom and beyond. The group's first recording, Erich Korngold's Symphony in F sharp major, was released in 2019 and earned the BBC Music Magazine Award for orchestral music in 2020. In 2023, the group released four new albums of music by composers ranging from Rachmaninov to Rodgers & Hammerstein. The Sinfonia of London returned in 2024 with an album of works by Ravel, Lennox Berkeley, and Adam Pounds.
