In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was 9, I visited a friend who lived on a farm. After dinner, they had a sing-along. A woman playing the piano told me I had a nice voice, and asked me to sing solo. She kept playing; I kept soloing. At that point, I knew I was a singer. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Elliott Smith, Figure 8 Emmylou Harris, Wrecking Ball Joe Henry, Civilians These three writers demonstrate a style that is both poetic and musical, in a metaphoric style that tells a story without telling too much. But mainly, it's the melodies that really grab me. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “George Jones” This is one of the first songs I wrote that I recorded. It is all about my childhood but written in a symbolic, metaphoric way. It is very popular at my live shows, and every time I sing it, I think about southern Minnesota. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Every time I play on stage, in front of an appreciative audience is memorable. Winning the Singer-Songwriter contest at the 2018 River Falls WI Bluegrass Festival was by far the most affirming signal that my artistic journey was on the right path.
