A Congolese singer, songwriter, and dancer, Robinio Mundibu found success in the early aughts with legendary Central African groups Quartier Latin and Wenge Musica Maison Mère before embarking on a solo career in 2014. Specializing in pulsing Afro-pop with flourishes of house and rumba, he parlayed his regional popularity into international fame two years later with the EP Chiffre 9, which was released by French label EPM and included the hits "4 Lettres" and "Tsha Nanu Boye." Born and raised in Mbuji-Mayi, Robinio Mundibu (born Mongala Akelembi dit Robinio Mundibu) studied to be an electrician before deciding to focus solely on music. In 2002, he began working with Do Akongo from Quartier Latin and later teamed up with Wenge Musica Maison Mère's Tutu Caludji. He officially joined the latter group in 2009, where he stayed for the next five years. Mundibu kick-started his solo career in 2014 with the lithe single "Vantard," which looked to the Congolese rumba style of Do Akongo for inspiration. He released five more well-received singles over the next year-and-a-half, eventually catching the attention of EPM records, which issued Mundibu's breakout EP, Chiffre 9, in 2016. He continued honing his rumba, soukous, and ndombola-imbued Afro-pop and house on subsequent singles like 2018's "Kita Mata" and 2019's "Misu Na Misu" and "Bina Na Nga." ~ James Christopher Monger
