About Johnny Cash & The Tennessee Two
Johnny Cash was one of the most imposing and influential figures in post-World War II country music. With his deep, resonant baritone and spare percussive guitar, he had a basic, distinctive sound. A series of iconic singles, most notably "I Walk the Line" and "Ring of Fire," made hime a household name. The darker edge of his material resonated with the emerging rock audience as well as country fans, and in 1968 Columbia released At Folsom Prison, one of the most acclaimed live albums of all time. His country hits receded during the '80s and '90s, but a renaissance came via the outstanding American Recordings series, sparse masterpieces produced by Rick Rubin.
