About Harley Quinne

This UK act was created by British songwriting and production team, Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, as a promotional vehicle for a 1972 composition entitled ‘New Orleans’ (not the Gary ‘U.S.’ Bonds perennial). It was recorded with a phalanx of session players and issued on Bell Records. BBC Radio 1 plugs eased it that autumn into the UK Top 20, and some likely-looking lads were hired to lip-synch it on television’s Top Of The Pops in glam-rock garb. However, its two follow-ups (‘Rock And Roll Is Back Again’ and a revival of Johnnie Ray’s ‘Such A Night’) were unable to repeat the ‘New Orleans’ miracle - and the project was abandoned.
