About Bjorn Surrao
Chennai singer-songwriter and composer Bjorn Surrao has created a sparkling repertoire of Tamil soundtracks—alongside his dreamy solo pop material in India’s independent music space—that balances easy-going charm and dramatic vocals. • A self-taught musician who began writing music at the age of 16, Surrao cut his teeth as part of rock band Franks Got the Funk. • After studying music production and sound engineering in Dubai, he pursued a business degree in Chennai. By 2016, his work composing and singing in ads, short films and documentaries put him on the radar in the Tamil film world. • In 2014, he began releasing solo material, drawing from his love for reggae, dancehall, fusion and pop. A debut EP, Stories From a Bottle, arrived in 2018. It featuring songs in both English and Tamil. • On 2017 Tamil crime drama Naalu Peruku Nalladhuna Edhuvum Thappilla, Surrao composed the score while Anirudh Ravichander sang one of the tracks. It led to a continued association that includes 2017 electronic song “Vaa Velaikkara”, which is composed by Ravichander and sung by Surrao. • Ravichander later called on Surrao to be an English vocalist on reggae track “Master the Blaster” from the 2021 Tamil action flick Master.
