Chosen by Ludovico Einaudi from his considerable back catalogue, Undiscovered II dives deep into the gently flowing stream of the composer’s music. The album includes 18 tracks mined from live and studio recordings, carefully curated to form an enchanting mix of meditative miniatures, offered together with a sonorous remix of “Walk” by multi-instrumentalist and producer Phaeleh. Pieces such as “Ascolta”, “Bella Notte”, “Limbo” and the haunting “Canzone Africana IV” are propelled by heartfelt melodies and consoling harmonies that burrow beneath the skin to stir powerful emotions and memories. Einaudi sounds echoes of the great European folk ballad tradition in the sublime “Stella Del Mattino” and again in “Experience”, presented here in a version freshly made by him for solo piano. Undiscovered II, like a glorious sunset, resonates in mind long after it fades to silence.
