Boiler Room: The Black Madonna b2b Mike Servito at Dekmantel, Amsterdam, Aug 6, 2016 (DJ Mix)

Detroit native Mike Servito and Chicago’s Marea Stamper (aka The Blessed Madonna, fka The Black Madonna) live and breathe the spirit of Midwestern dance music—past, present and future. In this 2016 back-to-back set from Amsterdam’s Dekmantel Festival, they deliver a masterclass in jacking house and techno. Servito, known for his heady touch, favours deep, pumping, faintly psychedelic cuts from Robert Hood, Omar S, Surgeon and his labelmate Justin Cudmore; Stamper, a committed crowd-pleaser, busts out disco-soaked mood brighteners from Marquis Hawkes and Thomas Bangalter along with Phuture’s acidic “Spank Spank” and Dajae’s jazz-sampling “U Got Me Up”. It’s a switch-backing set that delivers the best of both worlds: heads-down intensity and hands-in-the-air abandon.
