You Am I Essentials

Fronted by the manic and maniacal Tim Rogers, You Am I built its legend on rampaging live performances and a string of passionate, idiosyncratic rock records in the '90s, ending up one of Australia's most popular and enduring rock combos. Initially as a trio, the group spearheaded the local end of the mid-'90s post-grunge movement, with their first two albums, 1993's Sound as Ever and 1995's Hi Fi Way, produced by Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo. Hi Fi Way topped the local charts and is rated by many critics and music fans as one of the greatest Oz rock albums of all time. The band's following two releases, 1996's Hourly, Daily and 1998's #4 Record, similarly topped the charts, making it a hat-trick of No. 1 albums, a feat unachieved by any other local band up until that point.
