Leon Vynehall Essentials

When Leon Vynehall wanted to channel memories of listening to songs in his mother's car, he made Music for the Uninvited, a warmly nostalgic mini-LP fleshed out with tape hiss and bookended by the clacking of a cassette deck. That sense of timelessness permeates all the UK producer's music. Inspired by deep house pioneers like Moodymann and Pepe Bradock, he's a master of shuffling breakbeats, lush piano samples and hypnotic vocals looped just so; the emotional impact of his records is a lot like déjà vu. Still, thanks to his inimitable melodies, there's no doubting he's a true original.
