Inspired by J Dilla

J Dilla's artful flips of jazz and soul samples established him as an influential visionary in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. It's not hard to hear him in the diffuse, soft-focus jazz of Robert Glasper's "Afro Blue". The tricky arrhythmia of Kendrick Lamar's intricate, impressionistic "Momma" shows Dilla's fingerprint. So does the layered, stuttering, atmospheric backing vocal on Ty Dolla $ign's "Stand For".
