Chic Essentials

Chic Essentials

Guitarist Nile Rodgers first teamed up with bassist Bernard Edwards in New York in the early ‘70s, but it wasn't until 1976, when drummer Tony Thompson and singer Norma Jean Wright joined them, that Chic found themselves a record deal. The group's timing was impeccable, as their floor-filling, feel-good mega-hits became the soundtrack to Manhattan's disco scene. They broke up when disco fever passed, but their sleek guitar sounds, romantic strings, and funky beats would influence hip-hop and dance music for years to come. A reunion at the end of the ‘80s followed, and Rodgers is still touring the band.
