Al Green Essentials

Al Green revolutionised soul music in the early ‘70s, but he did so in the softest, quietest way possible. At a time when Southern soul was all about gritty showmanship and gospel belting, Green recorded a series of impossibly intimate masterpieces. Green's sensitivity as a singer, and his always-exquisite phrasing, can raise goosebumps even at low volume. But hit singles are just one side of Al's career. He became an ordained pastor in ‘76 and put that voice to work in the service of the Almighty. Al Green returned to secular music in 2003, extending his soul-man status into the next generation.
