About Demarco

As a teenager in Jamaica, dancehall artist Demarco got his start working as the deejay/selector for Future Disco and performing at the legendary club Cactus. ∙ One of his earliest successes came in 2003 when two of his songs appeared on Elephant Man’s No. 1 album Good 2 Go. ∙ Demarco released a split 7-inch single with dancehall legend Bounty Killer, landing “We Nuh Play” as the flipside to Bounty Killer’s “Warlord Reloaded.” ∙ The vocoder-hooked single “Fallen Soldiers” was his breakthrough hit in 2007, and it spawned a popular remix featuring rapper Jim Jones in 2008. ∙ He was nominated for Urban Music Awards’ Best Reggae Act in 2013 and 2014. ∙ In 2017, Akon signed him to his record label, with each artist appearing on the other’s subsequent singles—Akon’s “Predictable” and Demarco’s “No Wahala.”
