Tanya Stephens Essentials

Making her debut during the ‘90s dancehall era, Tanya Stephens became a strong role model for women in reggae. Her breakthrough hit was the 1996 empowerment anthem “Yuh Nuh Ready Fi Dis Yet” that made her a household name in Jamaica. After unsuccessfully pursuing a rock career in Sweden, she returned home to make the well-received Rebelution album.  Her music and public speaking began to reflect staunch opposition to discrimination against women, HIV-positive individuals and the LGBT community. She also took control of her career by releasing music on her own Tarantula label.
