Joshua Redman Essentials

The son of legendary tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman, Joshua Redman has carved out his own impressive career on the instrument through a string of solid solo releases. Redman, a Harvard University graduate who initially intended on studying law at Yale, embraced jazz after taking first place at the 1991 Thelonious Monk competition. The contest brought him a recording contract with Warner Bros., through which he's hewed closely to a post-bop delivery with occasional forays into electronica and rock-tinged material. Redman has also collaborated with peers like James Farm, as well as vets like Pat Metheny.
