Hamburg's Fünf Sterne deluxe have been slinging fierce, old-school hip-hop since the late '90s, boldly embracing '80s synth-pop, witty, light-hearted rhymes and heaps of slinky soul samples. The group's 1998 debut album Sillium showed off their vocal dexterity and versatility; rappers Das Bo and Tobi Tobsen in turns smooth and smoky over jazz piano and bouncy double-bass, then sharp and manic over frenetic electro beats. Their 2017 album, Flash, continues the experimental spirit, with Middle Eastern rhythms and instrumentation rippling alongside dense, sticky bass hits.
