Olaf Dettinger is one of the more mysterious producers associated with German label Kompakt, but one of the most affecting, with his powerful combination of otherworldly synth textures and slow-motion beats. He debuted in '98 with the Blond EP, which was followed a year later by the crackling, sprawling Intershop, the first Kompakt album devoted to a single artist. Since his full-length sophomore, Oasis, in 2000 Dettinger has released only a handful of compilation tracks and remixes, but his work has left an indelible mark on the ever-evolving world of IDM.
