About Urbandub

Four buddies from Cebu City were on track to be a reggae band—hence the name Urbandub. But on 2003’s Influence, singer and axeman Gabby Alipe took a deep breath and let fly his indie rock and emocore yowl. It heralded the rise of “The Giant Sound of the South” movement, leading bands from the Mindanao and the Visayas regions to mainstream consciousness throughout the 2000s. Though lineup changes temporarily stalled Urbandub’s near 20-year career of anthemic and delicious alt rock, their creative glories have always remained a high-water mark in OPM.
