Sonny Davis

About Sonny Davis

Sonny Davis was the twin brother of Honey Davis, and as the Davis Twins, both of them were regular performers on several popular West Virginia radio programs from the late '30s through the late '50s. They were not to be confused with the Davis Sisters, which featured a total of four related warblers. A disc jockey and performer named Sleepy Jeffers -- who was Honey's husband -- created what may be the only recordings featuring the twins, including the tracks "Pretending Is a Game" and "My Blackbirds Are All Bluebirds Now." The songs were originally released on the Starday label in 1957; like almost everything on the catalog of this bastion of honky tonk and rockabilly, the tracks have been reissued on a series of compilations. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
